Camper FAQs
How do I know if I'm ready for camp?
Simple. Once you’ve spent the night away from home at a buddy’s house, you’re ready to be away from home for several weeks and will manage just fine. Counselors and other campers are ready to help at any time if you’re not sure what to do or where to go. Before long, you’ll be the one to help a new camper!
Can I be in the same cabin with my best friend from home?
In our experience, we’ve learned that boys actually settle in much more easily and get more out of camp when they are not in the same cabin with a best friend from home. You’ll have tons of opportunities to be with your friend, including choosing the same activities and spending free time together. As always, we are happy to talk about this.
Who will be in my cabin?
You’ll be with other boys your age, and you’ll learn what cabin you’re in on arrival day. We “build” each cabin group by looking at factors like interests, goals, and session length. This tends to create well-rounded, fun “summer families” within the greater Pemi family. Your new best friend awaits!
Will I be ready for fall sports?
Absolutely. If you’re ready to work hard, our coaches are ready to support you. Athletes return to Pemi year after year, knowing they’ll be in top physical condition for school, ready to resume their place on a team and/or be prepared to try out for a new sport. What sports will you play at Pemi?
What if I'm a picky eater?
You’ll be encouraged, but never forced, to try new foods, and with all that we offer, you won’t go hungry. It can be easier to be adventurous in a setting where others at the table are also trying something new, and many boys who arrive at Pemi as picky eaters write home requesting some new favorites for when they return. (Here’s a recipe from camp for biscuits that many Pemi boys make at home. Start a tradition by making this simple recipe for your family!)
What if I'm homesick?
Not everyone feels homesick, but it’s not unusual to experience “home-missing,” as change can be unsettling for anyone, no matter how old you are or how many years you’ve gone to camp. You certainly won’t be alone in going through homesickness, and your counselor, other staff members, and even other campers will be ready to support you. In the future, knowing that you can recognize and manage homesickness opens the door to all sorts of life adventures!
Who will my counselor be?
Pemi counselors are fun, fair, and good leaders. Most were once Pemi campers and bring a lot of Pemi experience with them, and each year we make sure to have a few counselors new to Pemi, too, as they bring fresh ideas and experiences. All want to give you the best summer possible!
