16s Program – Canoeing, Backpacking, & Service Expedition
For the 2023 16s program, you will travel to southwestern United States for three weeks of canoeing, backpacking, and service learning. You will travel to Pemi for wilderness first aid training, fly to Colorado with the group, and embark on an incredible wilderness adventure. Pemi is once again partnering with Deer Hill Expeditions – an outdoor education and service learning organization with nearly 40 years’ experience, all in the southwest – to run this program. You will spend one week canoeing through the Labyrinth Canyon on the Green River, another backpacking in the southern Colorado mountains, and a third engaging in service work in conjunction with either a Native group, a local sustainable farm, or the Forest Service. The group will fly back to New Hampshire together, spend one night at Pemi, and then either continue on in the Counselor Apprentice Program or depart.
Add-On Option – Counselor Apprentice Program
The final phase of the 16s Program will be back at Pemi for those interested in serving as a Counselor Apprentice. This behind the scenes look at what life is like as a staff member at Pemi is incredibly rewarding. It gives you the immediate opportunity to put newly acquired leadership skills to good use and positions you well for what we hope will be the next phase of your Pemi career when you join us as our colleagues on staff.
