2026 Pemi Staff
Welcome to the 2026 Pemi summer – our 119th! Throughout the summer we’ll send out a weekly newsletter detailing the goings on here at camp, with an effort to share as much of the spirit of Pemi as we can with all of you at home. In this first installment, I’m thrilled to introduce you to a number of our 2026 staff: our directors, cabin counselors, program and office staff, and Health Center team. This incredible group represents only a portion of the full Pemi staff. In later posts you’ll meet our kitchen crew, the buildings and grounds team, and a number of other folks who are integral to the success of every Pemi summer. We’ll keep the introductions coming throughout the season. Every single member of the Pemi team is eagerly awaiting opening day.
We’ve all been hard at work over the last several weeks (or months in the case of our buildings and grounds team) to prepare for the imminent arrival of 163 boys tomorrow. Lifeguards have been trained, staff have been certified in wilderness first aid, and the last week has been spent developing counseling skills and setting up our physical space. Camp has never looked better at this stage of the season!
This time period also allows for great staff bonding via our staff hike, campfire, team building exercises, and downtime spent getting to know each other better. The camaraderie this week has been palpable. We have an amazing group assembled to mentor, teach, and look after our campers this summer. Our cabin staff ranges from guys who already have over a decade of Pemi experience under their belt to folks brand new to camp. Similarly, many of our program staff have been here for several decades while others bring that fresh energy and new ideas that make sure we’re always growing and improving, just like our campers. No matter their experiences and backgrounds, every Pemi staff member is here for the same reason: to help us give our campers the best summer of their lives. I’m proud and honored to introduce the 2026 Pemi staff, and we can’t wait to get going in earnest tomorrow!
Directors
Kenny Moore – Director: This will be my 34th summer at Pemi and I’ve been so fortunate to have camp as my summer home since I was 10 years old. During the non-summer months, my wife Sarah, son Winston, daughter Sally, and dog Burger, and I live in Avon Lake, Ohio just west of Cleveland. This summer beyond my cherished directorial duties, I look forward to stepping outside of my comfort zone to try something new. Perhaps fishing or joining a Palermo Mine trip, stay tuned!

I started as a camper when I was 8-years-old and am grateful that I now get to continue returning to Pemi summer after summer. I’m a New Yorker born and raised, but when I’m not at camp I currently live in Boston with my wife Shannon, our 5-month-old son Jack, and our dog Kemba. I’m so excited for Jack to experience his first Pemi summer! In addition to spending time all around camp this summer, I look forward to taking a group or two out on hikes and spending time in the mountains.

I graduated from the University of Minnesota’s School of Social Work in 2013 and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). For the past ten years, I have been practicing clinical social work in a variety of therapeutic and community settings. I live in St. Paul, MN with my husband Nick and daughters Charlotte (6), and Holly (4).
Charlie Malcolm – Assistant Director: I have been teaching history and coaching soccer for thirty-five years in independent schools. For the last twenty-five years I have been teaching at the Northfield Mount Hermon School. My first summer at Pemi was in 1976, and I spent three summers as a camper. My father attended Pemi in the late 1930s and early 1940s; Tom Reed Sr. was his counselor in Senior II. After three years as a camper, I returned to Pemi to work in maintenance before becoming a counselor in 1987. Since 1990 I have been the Camp’s Athletic Director until recently being named Assistant Director in 2021. Larry Davis – Program Staff: This is my 57th year at Pemi. I was Director of Nature Programs and Teaching from 1970-2019 and continue to work in the Nature Program now. I currently live in Concord, NH. I am Professor Emeritus of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of New Haven and hold a PhD in Geological Sciences from the University of Rochester. In 2018 I received the Non-formal Environmental Educator Award from the New England Environmental Alliance. I served on the Board of New Hampshire Environmental Educators from 2020-2026 and still serve on several committees. I am a serious amateur flutist, love to cook (I joined a culinary tour of Viet-Nam in late November, 2025!), love to travel (got my 50th state in October, 2023!), collect waterfalls, and “geologize” whenever I can. I also tell “Down East” stories at campfires. Outside of geology, I learned almost everything else I know at camp. I hope to pass on that legacy to campers this summer and into the future.

I will be teaching all things sport-fishing this summer from rod-building to fly-tying. Watching kids catch fish is fun, but seeing them begin to develop a passion for it is extremely satisfying. The formal fishing program at camp is entering its 5th summer in 2026 and the momentum continues to build.

I look forward to sharing my passions with fellow staff and campers all summer long!

The 2026 season will be my 39th, and I’m eager to be part of what Pemi does best: building a close-knit community where campers and staff from the youngest to oldest live together, play, create, and grow through respect and acceptance. I’m also excited for Pemi’s 3rd Women’s Weekend this September 10/11-13. For women 21 and over, please join! Come solo or bring a friend!
Tom Reed – Head of Mess Hall Singing: My grandfather, Dudley Reed, co-founded Pemi with the Fauver twins back in 1908. My Reed family ties first brought me to camp in June of 1947 at the tender age of two weeks. I’ve spent all but five summers here since, as a camper, assistant counselor, counselor, division head, head of program, staff, and trips, and as a director. My “winter job” for 38 off-seasons was teaching literature and film at Dickinson College. My wife, Dottie, and I spend October to early June in Sarasota, Florida, although we have plans to re-retire to Hanover, NH, before too long. This summer, I’ll again be leading singing in the Mess Hall, helping my son Dan with the trip program, and writing vaguely slanderous items for Bean Soup.

I’m from Palo, Iowa, and over the next 18 years, I worked for the State of Iowa in both corrections and mental health, caring for youth and adults. Eventually, I felt ready for a new challenge, so I went back to school and proudly graduated from Kirkwood in May 2024 with my ADN/RN. For the past two years, I’ve been a school nurse at Isaac Newton Christian Academy, and I’ve loved every minute of it! Outside of work, I’ve been happily married for 22 years and am a proud mom of two boys in 4th and 10th grade. I’m so excited for the opportunity to be a camp nurse at Camp Pemi and can’t wait to meet, support, and care for all the amazing campers!

I have three cats who love attention. In my free time I like to take classes at the YMCA, and I am a member of the Hudson Budget Committee. I love puzzles, diamond dotz crafts, reading, and movies. I will have to get one of my sons here to tour the camp. He used to be a Boy scout and has hiked many of the NH White Mountains. We have camped together too. Summers in NH are beautiful, and I cannot wait to be at camp to experience part of it with you!
