As stated in Camp Pemigewassett’s mission…
Pemi recruits staff members who are dedicated to the development of the whole camper, and we train them carefully with an eye to the most informed thinking on the social, physical, and emotional well-being of boys. Our staff’s enhanced leadership, mentorship, and communication skills serve our campers and parents well and become vital traits for staff to carry into future roles and relationships.
Pemi staff members are often experienced teachers, instructors, and coaches, but when we select our staff, we are more interested in our applicants’ basic personal qualities than in their technical background in any given area. These include:
- strength of character
- a love for working with young people
- a solid and trustworthy background
- enthusiasm for their areas of interest
- a committed and intelligent attitude toward education
In order to be a cabin counselor, you must be a rising sophomore in college or someone of the equivalent age and experience.
Assistant counselor applicants are usually former Pemi boys who are at least 17 years old. Completion of Pemi West and the Counselor Apprentice Program is recommended. For someone new to Pemi, the applicant should be a rising senior in high school.
