Deb earned her Geology degree through the University of Rochester (home of Fauver Stadium, named after the university’s Athletic Director and one of Pemi’s founders, Edwin Fauver). As a participant in Pemi’s first Nature Instruction Clinic in 1993, Deb received training that became the bridge between college field study and a career of leading outdoor science programs through camps, museums, and trips programs throughout the U.S. Her work in urban, rural, and wilderness settings in 22 different program types for 14 institutions and in a wide range of ecosystems shaped Deb’s perspective on the value of shared transformational experiences in the outdoors for all ages. Deb joined Pemi’s Nature Program staff in 2008 and in 2019 was named Head of the Nature Program. During the school year Deb and her husband Brian live in Reno, NV, where she is an Educator for Sierra Nevada Journeys, leading classroom and field programs with 1st through 6th graders, and Family STEM Nights.
