Nature

Are you interested in the natural world around you? For many boys, the Nature Lodge becomes a home-within-a-home at Pemi, a hub of bustling curiosity and investigation.

One Of The Best Nature Programs In The Country

Through observing and experiencing Pemi’s habitats in our morning activities and with field exploration trips offered near and far every afternoon, campers and staff take a closer look together, noticing the action of life all around us. In all subjects of natural history, campers can develop investigative reasoning and field skills in Pemi’s nationally renowned program that started way back in 1925.

Pemi’s pre-season Nature Clinic is designed for instructors at day camps, resident camps, outdoor education centers, docents and seasonal staff at nature centers and national and state parks. Learn more here.

Nature Program Staff

Our Nature Program Director, Deb Kure, was a participant in Pemi’s first Nature Instruction Clinic in 1993 and came to Pemi in 2008. Deb took over the reins of the Nature Program in 2020 from Larry Davis, who came to Pemi in 1970 and directed the Nature Program for 50 summers. Deb is joined by Larry and a staff of 5–7 returning or new instructors, each with a passion for our natural world.

What does a typical week in the Nature Program look like?

When you take some time away from identifying all the flora and fauna around you, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to discover new interests and tap into new abilities by trying activities in our other program areas: Hiking & Canoeing, Sports, Water Sports, and Music, Woodworking, Art, & Drama.
